Dhaka, Aug. 11: Bangladesh’s state minister for local government and rural development Syed Abul Hossain has resigned after he used a second passport on a recent private visit to Singapore, officials at the Prime Minister’s office said on Monday.
They said the minister sent his resignation letter on Sunday requesting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed to relieve him of his ministerial post.
The officials said the minister was summoned by Sheikh Hasina Wajed on Sunday after he travelled to Singapore without government consent using his national green passport.
Bangladesh law dictates that when a minister takes oath, he surrenders his green national passport and obtains a red diplomatic passport. A minister cannot hold both the red and green passports and all his trips out of the country must be with government approval. (Reuter)
